Walks
You should leave the house walking ahead of me and then I’ll walk to your side, slightly ahead. Set the tone for the walk that you are in charge.
A pocket of treats that I’m made aware of prior to leaving, and then random rewarding when I’m doing what you want and I’ll be good.
I love a sniff and I”m happy with a 30-90 min on lead walk around the local area, or equally a 2-3 hour romp around beaches, countryside, generally anywhere away from groups of dogs or off lead dogs.
At the beach or in open spaces or woodland etc., I’m good off lead if you can clearly see there’s no other dogs around within 100m. If any start getting close, call me over, put me on lead, and I’m cool.
I have no routine. I can have 1 30 min walk a day sometimes, and some inside play and I’m good. Other days I can go out for 2-3 walks, sometimes to the beach or nature park where I chase squirrels and sometimes see deer.
Equally timing of walks has never been a thing. Anytime between 8am and 2pm for my first walk and then again from 3pm-9pm for a 2nd.
I’m not keen on the rain, and some days I just don’t fancy a walk and within 15 minutes I’ve steered my humans home again.
